C.J. Carey's Widowland
Widowland by C.J. Carey is a scary and well-thought-out dystopian tale set in a different 1950s Britain where Nazi ideas prevail following a "peaceful" partnership with Hitler. This government censors books, sorts women by how helpful they are, and puts older single women in a forgotten area called Widowland.
Rose Ransom, a government worker whose job it is to rewrite historic books to fit party propaganda, starts to doubt everything she knows. Rose has to choose between being quiet and safe or standing up to the growing rumors of rebellion.
Set of Books
This book is great for fans of The Handmaid's Tale, 1984, and V for Vendetta. It combines female resistance with aspects of a historical mystery.
Why you should read Widowland:
Dystopian Feminism: A harsh look at how women's voices and roles are erased.
Historical Twist: Looks at a different past in which Britain gives under to Nazism.
Literary Intrigue: honors prohibited literature and the strength of words.
Setting: A universe that is vividly envisioned but also quite real.
"If you want to control the future, erase the past." This quote from the book is very memorable.
"ඔබට අනාගතය පාලනය කරන්න අවශ්ය නම්, අතීතය මකන්න."
"நீங்கள் எதிர்காலத்தை கட்டுப்படுத்த விரும்பினால், கடந்த காலத்தை அழிக்க வேண்டும்."
